This article is part of a series of articles highlighting the extensive features and capabilities of Sanbolic’s Software-Defined Storage platform.
Dynamic volume expansion
All editions of the Sanbolic Platform include an advanced volume manager that greatly simplifies the provisioning and management of shared volumes.
In the Enterprise™ edition, the volume manager provides advanced functionality such as dynamic volume expansion, which allows storage resources to be added dynamically (without bringing a shared volume offline) to increase volume capacity without disrupting volume access. In other words, a shared volume managed by Melio Volume Manager can be expanded while I/O operations are conducted against the volume, enabling true “on the fly” volume expansion for seamless infrastructure scale-out.
Key Benefits
The ability to expand volume capacity dynamically allows IT administrators to scale out their storage infrastructures seamlessly to support ever-increasing data requirements without impacting user productivity.
